Head strikes

This image shows evidence that the banding is produced by head strikes. The vertical scratches on the left of the plate are in a non-printing area, thus indicating that the head is dragging across the plate. This may be due to dust or other contamination on the print head or it could stem from the wrong settings for paper thickness or platen gap.
